Which music track?

Before we started we had already narrowed our choice of song because of our similar ideas, we listened to 'End credits' by Plan b and Chase and Status and 'Pieces' by the same British urban artist and ideas fled into our heads for both tracks. The third anomaly song was 'This sadness will never end' by Bring me the horizon, which held the passion and immense excitement we were looking for in our track but the instrumental sections sprouted no ideas. Choosing between the two Plan B songs was difficult, yet after studying and interpreting the music and lyrics we diecided that the lyrics and emotion conveyed in 'Pieces' is very repetitive throughout, end credits portraying many conflicting emotions which would create great visuals in our music video. Here are the lyrics, the ones in bold lyrics we felt were important and emotions we felt surfaced through the lyrics.

Chase & Status ft. Plan B - End Credits
When the blood dries in my veins
And my, heart feels no more pain
I know, I'll be on my way
To heaven's door

Death itself can only take away the pain in his heart

I know when I knock
I'll be hoping I don't drop
To a place where I will rise, like before

Hell, heaven? Has he sinned? Contemplation, acceptance

I can feel, something happening
That I've never felt before
Hopeless dreaming will start
Dragging me away from heavens door

Regret, disorientation, what is he dreaming of? reverie, fogged vision, pulling him toward hell? Or, Bringing him back to life

When my mind stops thinking
And my eyes stop blinking
I hope...
Somebody's there

Will anybody care if he passes away? He hopes in forgiveness, what is his sin? Lost, alone

When my heart stops beating
And my lungs stop breathing
In air...
I hope somebody cares

Will his body be alone as his mind is?

When the blood dries in my veins
And my, heart feels no more pain
I know, I'll be on my way
To heaven's door

I know when I knock
I'll be hoping I don't drop
To a place where I will rise, like before

I can feel, something happening
That I've never felt before
Hopeless dreaming will start
Dragging me away from heavens door

When my mind stops thinking
And my eyes stop blinking
I hope...
Somebody's there

When my heart stops beating
And my lungs stop breathing
In air...
I hope somebody cares

When my mind stops thinking
And my eyes stop blinking
I know...
At the end

We listened to the chosen song numerous times as a group and formulated ideas separately at first and then combined our thoughts. At first it was hard to purely interpret every word of the lyrics, but we soon found that ideas did not have to necessarily have to have a story line or answer every question, a lot of ideas can be made implicit through our editing and filming, and also the song lends itself to a very out of body experience which could be interpreted as surreal.

Initial thoughts included:

De-saturation of film
Red light, dim lighting,
Loneliness - a derelict place to host the male narrator/actor of the song such as a garage, yet other locations which also have a sinister feel.
Thoughts on what he could be regretting included, leaving home, being unfaithful to a partner, regretting something he did not do and extremities such as murder, loosing friends or family due to his mistakes.
A female role included, shots of intimacy,
Changing pace of editing,
Disorientation,
Blurred and soft focus point of view shots and lights,
Shots of streets at night, him being surrounded by strangers, intimate thoughts and feelings expressed through flashbacks home videos - grainy effects
Slow motion
Anger, screaming,
Smashing glass in slow motion,
Bleeding from nose,
Smoke blown out and sucked in,

These were all initial ideas purely interpreting the music and formulating ideas, although we began to look at music videos for inspiration.
