Established conventions of Music Videos

Conventions Include:
Illustrating the lyrics and sound with creative interpretation - Rihanna's 'Russian Roulette' and Brand new's 'Transit Gloria fades' is a creative and unique illustration of the lyrics, inner lyrics are also mirrored in the action in both. We can begin to think of ways we can direct the actor to interpret our lyrics.
Expressive Lighting - All videos had a vivid use of colouring which can be enhances in post production yet have to begin tonally vibrant. Even 'Wait your turn' was tonally dynamic due to the bold use of lighting
Lip syncing - Almost all the videos analysed used lip syncing sparingly and between narrative, expessially used for important and memorable lyrics
Jumps between a wide range of shots but primarily close ups - All videos employed this way of editing
The pace of editing matching the pace of the music - Again all videos utilized this facet.
Innovative effects - Anthony Mandler's use of post production overlay was striking, however filmed mirror play and trickery shown in 'Nobody's fool', '21 guns' and 'Transit Gloria' show that creative camera filming can create unique effects also. Dissolves and transitions are also extremely prominent in all of the videos.
Mise en scene which mirrors the tracks genre/tone - Each video's mise en scene linked to the theme, tone or genre of the track well, including costume and use of props.

When planning and shooting our video we will have to consider each of these entirely to ensure our product is reminiscent of music videos today and that it too looks professional.
